KIDS Afterschool was designed to be flexible and easily adapted to meet the diverse needs of afterschool and OST programs everywhere. Here are some suggestions on how you can get the most out of this curriculum:
KIDS Afterschool is being used by thousands of educators in every state in the United States and in 30 countries (and counting!) across the world, on every continent. There is an incredible opportunity for all of these users to share and connect with each other - so sign up by clicking the "Sign Up" link in the upper right of your screen, and join this growing community of educators like yourself! Registering will allow you to leave comments about activities; save your favorite activities (look for the little folder with the plus sign); group activities together; print shopping lists; and more. When you sign up, you will never receive any unwanted email or advertisements - we do not sell or rent information to third parties. You will only ever be contacted with information about the website, and we can promise that those messages will be sent infrequently. We know how busy you are...the last thing you need is emails you don't want.
We want your comments! If you have tried an activity, please post a comment about it! When you sign up, you will see that each activity has a "Comments" section at the bottom. If you changed something and it made the activity better, we want to hear about it, and the other users of the curriculum will benefit from that wisdom. Maybe you substituted one material for another. Maybe you even tried something that DIDN'T work. Maybe you just want to encourage people to try an activity that you really like. All of this information is incredibly useful to your peers around the world, and it would be a tremendous help to all of them if you share what you learned, tried, liked and didn't like about each of these activities. We want to learn from your experience and expertise!
You'll notice that you can also "Tweet" and "Like" activities - click those icons to share activities with friends and other educators, and introduce people to these resources.
We also want your suggestions and questions - if you have ideas for how to make the curriculum or this site better; if you have any ideas or requests for new activities, resources, or where to find materials; or if you just want us to know how we are doing, please contact us and let us know. KIDS Afterschool is an ever-evolving and growing resource - the more we hear from you, the better it will be. Click the "Contact Us — Send Your Ideas & Feedback" link on the bottom right of your screen to get in touch with the KIDS Afterschool team. This curriculum was created alongside the afterschool community...we want it to grow in the same way.
We will keep you up to date with new activities, ideas, links and happenings in the "Blog" section. Check it out each time you visit to get even more connected.
Most importantly, keep on trying new activities. Every activity in the KIDS Afterschool curriculum has been tested in afterschool programs like yours. That means that you know the activities work, you know that they are fun for your kids, and you know that they help teach the kinds of skills you want to impart to your children. So search for activities by topic, age level, time commitment, group size, etc. Keep in mind that these age levels and group sizes are suggestions...most activities in this curriculum can be adapted to work for any age and group size. You can also find activities by visiting the "Welcome" page to see which activities are highlighted, recommended by others, or were recently saved by other users. Be adventurous! Your kids will thank you for it.
