It is September, and in many parts of the world that means school is starting again after what was hopefully a wonderful summer.  A new schoolyear means new beginnings, new students and new learning.  Beyond the Chalkboard is a fantastic resource, especially at the beginning of the year.  Most of the activities on this site stress team work (and along with it, team building), social skill development and many other skills.  Search for activities for groups of 4 or more, and you will find some excellent resources to help your kids get to know each other better right from the start.  Here's to a fantastic year!  All our best.

Posted by Kids Afterschool, Sep 06, 2012
Ah, technology.  Such a wonderful tool...such a pain when things go wrong.  For almost the entire month of August (and the first week of September), our host server had a bad case of indigestion and Beyond the Chalkboard was down and unavailable.  Maybe you noticed.  We are so sorry for the interruption, but we have addressed the issue and we are back up and should be all set... Let the (Math) Games Begin!

Posted by Kids Afterschool, Jul 24, 2012
In just two days, the Summer Olympics kick off in London.  With more than 35 different sports represented, this is a great way to get kids excited about moving around and trying new activities.  But it’s also a great way to introduce some fun math concepts.  Did you ever notice how many Olympic medalists win their events by just seconds?  Often, young children have... Let us help you get set for SUMMER! May is always a busy month here in the afterschool arm of BCM, as we spend this month and much of June delivering fast-paced, hands-on workshops to old and new friends all over New England as they prepare for their summer programs.  Some will serve as few as 10 students, others will serve hundreds; some will work with the same students all summer while... We are very excited to announce that Beyond the Chalkboard was just named Best of the Web, Education for 2012 by Museums and the Web!  There were many excellent websites also nominated, so Boston Children's Museum is not only happy to win, but we were thrilled just to be considered alongside such esteemed institutions as The Guggenheim, The Tate, The National Museum of the American Indian,... Seasons Change

Posted by Kids Afterschool, Oct 25, 2011
Fall is upon us!  And with fall comes the splendor of fall color as the leaves change (at least here in New England!).   This is a great time to get your students talking about leaves – their shapes, sizes, and colors are starting points for art, literacy, and science activities.    If your afterschool site is in a wooded area or has trees nearby, have the...
